Dr. John R. Forsythe has dedicated the last decade
of his life to serving as the head pastor of The Way Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
John's journey into ministry began in his early twenties, driven by a profound sense of serving the community he resides in. Over the years, he has not only nurtured his congregation but also invested in his own spiritual and academic development. Currently, John is pursuing a doctorate in counseling, with a specialization in premarital, marital, spiritual, and sexual disorders. His advanced studies help equip him to provide comprehensive support to individuals and couples navigating
some of the most challenging aspects of their lives.
John's counseling approach is characterized by a Biblical understanding of human relationships and spirituality. He believes in the transformative power of addressing both emotional and spiritual needs, helping his clients achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. His expertise in premarital counseling prepares couples for the lifelong journey of marriage, fostering strong foundations of communication and mutual respect. In marital counseling, John offers guidance to couples facing difficulties, helping them reconnect and strengthen their bonds.
In addition to his focus on relationships, John's specialization in spiritual and sexual disorders allows him to address issues that are often shrouded in silence and stigma. He provides a safe space for individuals to explore and heal from these challenges, promoting a message of hope and redemption.
John's dedication to his ministry is shared by his wife, Brinlea, who is an integral part of The Way Church. Together, they have created a nurturing environment for their congregation, emphasizing community, support, and spiritual growth. The Forsythes are also proud parents to three children, who are growing up surrounded by the love and faith that their parents exemplify.
Under John and Brinlea's leadership, The Way Church has flourished, becoming a beacon of hope and spiritual guidance in Knoxville. The church's programs and services reflect their commitment to addressing the diverse needs of their congregation, from worship and Bible study to counseling and community outreach.
As John continues his doctoral studies, he remains dedicated to enhancing his ability to serve and support his community. His pursuit of academic excellence is a testament to his belief that effective pastoral care requires continuous learning and growth. Through his studies, John aims to integrate the latest insights from the field of counseling with his deep-rooted spiritual knowledge, ensuring that he can offer the most effective and compassionate support to those in need.
John holds his Doctorate in Christian Counseling through Andersonville Theological Seminary. He is also a certified Temperament Counselor through the National Christian Counselors association and has been a professional clinical member since June of, 2014. John’s approach to counseling is through the lens of the Arno Profile System. This is a biblically based approach that identifies the natural born temperament. Most people in life will learn to put on masks and build character that may cause undue stress and dissatisfaction in life. Learning about ones temperament and who they truly are, brings calmness and restoration back their life.
